We are Matt and Michael Susong, one in Charlotte and the other in Winston-Salem. Matt is a technology manager with TIAA and spends his weekends as the frontman for the Charlotte band To Better Waters. Michael works with a marketing agency based in Raleigh. After losing our father, who instilled a deep love of music in us both, to cancer in 2017, we started discussing ways we could keep him alive through music between us. It wasn’t until the pandemic inflicted additional distance on our relationship that we started sending music back and forth.
Matt loves his Mac, Logic studio software and traditional four-instrument rock/pop/singer-songwriters. Michael uses Windows, FL Studio software and leans toward electronic music and the endless sounds possible through the modern synthesizer. It took some work just to figure out the technical aspects of collaborating across systems and software and even more work to convert these distinctly different musical preferences into meaningful collaboration. Our third effort “we are in this together” feels like a success, not only musically but in perseverance to the goal of duet across distance.
We are excited to share our story with you and perhaps help others recognize the possibilities for further connection in their own lives. It's a story about two brothers, but it's also about all of us – about the power of creativity to bridge divides, about the strength of our bonds amidst life’s twists and turns, and about how we can find new ways to stay connected in a disconnected world.
New music releases Fall 2025 and we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as the others.
